Lady Mountaineers swept in 3A state softball ? Sports ? The Daily ...

North Murray?s softball season ended in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs with a pair of losses, 6-3 and 12-4, at Franklin County.

In the first game, Hannah Hensley pitched the first four innings and Kara Deal pitched the final two. The Lady Mountaineers (12-18) were winning 3-2 headed into fifth when the Lady Lions (24-10) took advantage of fielding miscues.

?We made a couple errors,? North Murray (12-18) coach Daphne Winkler said, ?and they are a great-hitting team and took the lead. We couldn?t get it back.?

Baylee Sutton went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Megan Pittman went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, North Murray?s pitching didn?t hold up. Trailing 12-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, Pittman launched a two-run homer to end on a bright spot. Sutton added a hit.

?I?m proud of the girls,? Winkler said. ?We struggled this year, to say the least. ... We are losing two seniors, Hannah Hensley and Jocelyn Blair, and they will be missed tremendously for us.?

Hensley pitched the entire second game and struck out the final batter she faced. Winkler said ?she always will be able to remember that.

?Tonight was emotional for us. I hated the way it all had to end,? she added.
