There are 2 things that every relationship will thrive on ? EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? the 2 E?s.

The 2 E?s that denote a successful relationship, a successful choice of partner.

When I speak of EQUALITY, I speak of emotional EQUALITY where each partner is able to give and receive and communicate clearly, concisely and comprehensively without being needy, demanding, weak or controlling.

I also speak of holding each other in EQUAL respect where each partner values what the other partner brings to the relationship, where one person?s strength is a good match for the other person?s ability to thrive, where both partners value what the other partner has to offer.

An EQUALITY where neither partner has to ?carry? the other partner because both partners are capable on a physical, financial and emotional level, and each partner enacts all three of these levels throughout their relationship.

When I speak of ENHANCEMENT, I quite simply mean that each partner is physically, financially and emotionally balanced on their own, their lives are fulfilled without anyone else needing to be there, but when they are together their lives are even better than before.

ENHANCEMENT is when neither partner is dependent or co-dependent; they are each strong, capable individuals who come together to enhance what they are already enjoying.

ENHANCEMENT comes from a place of security, a place of satisfaction, a place of knowledge, a place where both parties are able to exist successfully alone but where each person is enhanced by the other.

Most relationships, most fairy tales, most (in fact, maybe all) marriages are built on a need to own another person, on a desire to control the actions of another, on a conditional premise that is based on reliance and not on a true ENHANCEMENT.

A relationship built on EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT does not need to be labeled, it does not need to be co-dependent, it does not require lifelong conditions or ceremonies, it simply requires two individuals who are extremely capable alone and who come together to create something even better.

How do you participate in a relationship built on EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT?

Try this test, read the anecdote, apply it to your life:

If I play tennis with a 7 year old, I have to tap the ball over the net, I have to make sure that the ball is placed close to the player, I have to lessen my game in order that the 7 year old might possibly perhaps hit the ball back over the net (even though he will probably smack it into the net, out of the court, or at my head), and therefore the game of tennis I play is not much fun for me, in fact it quickly becomes a chore as I lower my standards more and more to accommodate the abilities of a 7 year old (or lack thereof).

However, if I were to play against someone who is better than or equal to my playing standard, I have to raise my game in order that the rallies are fun and exciting, in order to keep up the enjoyment of each player, in order to be EQUAL to the partner I am playing with. When I play tennis with this person I have met my match, I am constantly thinking, strategizing, excelling, upping my performance to keep the game alive and thriving, and by the end of the set I have become a better player (as have they) because we each gave it our all, and we each took what was offered in the spirit it was intended.

The moral of the story is that you should never lower your standards to accommodate someone else?s relationship issues.

Certainly, you should communicate and work together, but you should never compromise your abilities to be in a relationship with someone who is not capable of matching you with theirs.

EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? a fair game well played.

EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? a good relationship well lived.

EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? a better way to love.
